Our Lucky Road

Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer AKA Ram "Trust Fund" Our Lucky Charm

It seems our lucky road continues… It all started last fall with the donation of a superior ram named Trust Fund, that was loaned to us from Nathan Show Lambs, adding value to our breeding program.  Next up we were excited to find out Cargill of Council Bluffs, made a donation, to help us create educational materials for schools and 4-H clubs, promoting youth community service, with the motto of making EWEr days "Not All About EWE! To add to our good fortune, Ralston Vet has made a very special contribution to True Buddy Program. They have donated their large animal building (which is not in use anymore), we now will be able to expand our program to year round therapeutic interactions for youth! Thank EWE Dr. J, we love EWE!
Lastly a special thanks goes to Platteview High School's business, marketing and literature classes, for your help with our new book, and your work on the Cargill educational packets. To all the youth, the families, and all the well wishers of our program! EWE make a difference!

Shear Happiness

2nd Annual True Buddy Therapeutic Sheep Show
Sarpy County Fair 2011
My daughter's True Buddy experience: I had my reservations about sheep club when I first heard about it, I have never really been around farm animals and didn't think it would have much effect on Noelle. Boy was I shocked the first night of sheep club, it was amazing to see how excited Noelle was to be around the sheep and the other kids. I remember sitting filling out the papers when the girls took Noelle around the building to start dressing the sheep. One of the girls came back within minutes, stating she thought Noelle was scared and upset by the sheep and the activities, it was the exact opposite....her scream and body flairs were of pure excitement and joy. I remember thinking I just have to stay and watch....She reached out to pet the sheep without being asked...that NEVER happens, she would look and respond to the girls in which were her "buddies", which was strange for her because she doesn't normally interact well with strangers. She reached out and held the rope to lead the sheep with no problem, she never wants to hold on to anything especially for any length of time. Since that first night I saw Noelle enjoy each and every day of sheep club, she tried things I never thought she would (like put her hands in the bucket of cold soapy water and then actually scrub the sheep!!!)  She enjoyed the companionship from the buddies and enjoyed her time away from mom. I think she really felt a part of the group. Noelle has learned to stand with little support since last year and even learned to make her kid walker go a little on her own, I will be interested to see if leading the sheep will be motivation to get her feet moving this year. Thanks for all you do!

A Pocket Full Of Wool

Our good friend and True Buddy Jess, comes to the barn to to help out, groom the sheep, and luv on the new baby lambs . It's particularly entertaining to watch the sheep form a procession line, as Jess brushes them, for sometimes up to 3 hours (We're quite certain she holds the record for longest sheep brushing ever.)! Some of the sheep, especially Buddy, will get in line time and time again, loving all the attention. As Jess brushes along, she collects the wool, stuffing it in her pockets, until they are very full. When at home, Jess and her mom, put the wool into a baggie to keep and treasure. She loves to have something that reminds her of the sheep. Last week Jess walked in the barn shortly after the sheep were sheared. To her amazement, there was the biggest bag of wool sitting right in front of her! She squealed in delight, and thought she had hit the jackpot, just like it was a pot of gold!
…Do EWE See All The Pots Of Gold In EWEr Life!
Jess,
By The Way... Buddy Says, "Come Baaaaack Soon!"
